Much of the time, life goes on as normal for North Devon’s domestic and wild animals. Deer roam and forage
in the woods, cats give their owners unending pleasure and horses enjoy North Devon’s fields and bridleways
with their owners.
Animal rescue when things go wrong
Unfortunately, too often, things go wrong by accident or through cruelty. And that’s when our animal rescue service goes into action.
Thanks to support from people like you, our volunteers, animal ambulance, Misty Centre and Barnstaple special care unit are there for wild and domestic animals needing rescue. Here’s some of the animal rescue work that we do:
Working with other
animal rescue specialists
After a domestic animal rescue, we often do rehabilitation and rehoming ourselves. Wildlife rescue is more challenging; after effecting a rescue and giving first aid, we take wild animals to RSPCA West Hatch, one of the region’s leading wild animal rescue centres. They have the specialist skills and experience to manage the return of wildlife to its natural habitat.
Your support makes animal rescue possible
Fortunately, for every cruel or uncaring person, thousands love and appreciate North Devon’s creatures. It's people like you, young and old, who support us and help by reporting animals that need rescue. Without you we can’t continue our work.
Please read on to learn how you can help us with animal rescue.
