Ben is an 18-month old collie who was lucky enough to find a loving home with Sue and her husband at Braunton. Benny, as he is now called, had a hard start in life living his first year locked up with 9 other collies in a barn, getting no outside socialisation or stimulation or learning anything. He was rescued by the Animal Ambulance, and after spending a few weeks in kennels, was sent to Hilary and Stephen to live on their farm at Winkleigh. Hilary and Stephen help Border Collies, whether they are working dogs or destined to just be pets. Ben’s brother had just left their care to go on to a working home, but Ben quite firmly did not want to work. After about three months in their care and having been taught as much as possible and proving himself quiet and steady around all their farm animals and other dogs and cats, he was selected to meet Sue and her husband. They fell in love with him instantly, although it was no quite so with their three cats. The gang of three were not very welcoming and to start with Ben was a little confused and worried, especially when they used to corner him in a room. But all has settled and he is very happy with them. He adores Sue and follows her everywhere, even to the smallest room in the house!

Ben is still a little wary of other men but trusts Sue’s husband, and is a little reserved when faced with too many new people, but it is hoped that now he has settled and loves his new home, this will improve in time. Ben has shown some collie organisational traits with his toys. One has to definitely stay outside in the garden, a couple are for playing with downstairs and certain selected toys are allowed to stay upstairs in the bedroom. Who knows why he selected them as he did but he is quite sure where they all should be!
Thanks to the Lynch family, Ben is assured a wonderful, safe and caring home with a family who will love him for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately since writing about the success of rehoming Ben he got an untreatable illness and had to be put down. We are grateful that he found a loving home and family before this sad time.
PLEASE NOTE: all animals are subject to a NDAA home check before rehoming.
