Volunteer Updates - Christine Shepherd

Christine manages the first shop the Charity opened, in Barnstaple.  Christine came to work in the shop nearly two years ago, when approaching her 50th birthday she wanted to give back to the community. She has been in charge of the shop for more than a year.  Christine makes sure she is there every day, even if with her busy life she may only spend a couple of hours just checking everything is running smoothly.  If she can’t get a lift, she walks, living fairly near to the premises.  The shop has about ten regular volunteers, all of whom have been volunteers for a long time and get on very well.  Barnstaple is a very busy shop with many bags and sacks of donated goods coming in each week so the volunteers are kept hard at work sorting, pricing and displaying the items.

Christine has a very active social life, loving her bingo evenings, also rug-making and walking her dog.  She also looks after two stray cats, a rabbit, a hamster, as well as three cockatiels and a budgie.  She is only too aware how necessary it is for the Charity to be able to raise funds to help the animals.  Christine has three adult children, two sons and a daughter, as well as one grandson and five granddaughters. She has very little free time and yet she still reserves a great many hours each week to help the Charity for which we are very appreciative.
