This winter sadly saw very many deaths of wild birds. Very few were saved due to the poor condition they were in when rescued. We thank everyone who took the time to pick up these little birds and call us for help. Usually if you can approach and pick up a bird then it is in a very bad way. Despite all our efforts the cold weather, snow, and general hard conditions have resulted in great losses.
However, now that spring has arrived we are starting to see the arrival of fledglings; those that have been too hasty to jump out of nests before they are ready and those that our beloved cats find fascinating but which often prove deadly. The wild bird unit has been spring cleaned, the aviaries power-hosed and re-bedded down and already we have birds in residence.
If you find a bird in distress please contact us on our emergency telephone number 07817 995751. In the meantime if you could place the bird in a secure box, on something soft, and place it in a warm place and call us, we will try and get to you as soon as possible.
Please remember that if you find a young chick and it is not in danger then please leave it alone in case its Monther is on the scene. Check on it again later and if it is in distress, intervene and call us.
